Fish meal as a feed defect

Fish meal has a high content of crude protein, a full range of essential amino acids, and is rich in methionine, lysine, and tryptophan, which are deficient in vegetable protein feeds, and also contains nucleotides, active peptides, and taurine that promote the growth of livestock and poultry. "Growth factor" can be used to supplement protein and regulate the balance of amino acids in the diet. It is the best protein feed for the aquaculture industry and is loved by farmers.

Although fishmeal has many advantages, it has obvious flaws and farmers must fully understand and avoid undue losses.

1. The price is high. The high market price of fishmeal is an important component that affects the cost of rations. From the economical point of view, the amount of fish meal should be strictly controlled. In broiler and layer chicken diets, the amount of fish meal is preferably 2%-5%.

2. Spontaneous combustion. In the process of oxidation, the fat in the fishmeal releases a large amount of heat. After the phosphorus in the fishmeal is chemically decomposed, elemental phosphorus can be released, and the ignition point of the elemental phosphorus is very low. Therefore, poor preservation of fishmeal can easily lead to spontaneous combustion.

3. Perishable. Fish meal contains histamine and its compounds, which can easily cause muscle and stomach erosion in poultry. In particular, metamorphic fishmeal has a higher histamine content. Histamine accounts for 0.4% of chicken feed, which can cause typical muscle and stomach erosion. The content of histamine in inferior fish meal can be as high as 5%. Corrupted fishmeal will produce biogenic amines such as putrescine and cadaverine, as well as aldehydes, ketones, hydrocarbons, etc. These substances will not only affect feed palatability, but also cause poison to animals.

4. Easy to pollute. If improper processing methods or improper transportation or storage, fishmeal is easily contaminated by various microorganisms such as E. coli, Salmonella, Clostridium botulinum, Bacillus cereus, Aspergillus flavus, etc., and endanger the health of animals and even lead to death.

5. Poisoning. Fishmeal contains a certain amount of salt, salt content of imported fishmeal is 1.5%-2.5%, and salt content of domestic fishmeal is 4%-5%, but due to factors such as raw materials and processing, some fishmeal may have salt content as high as 15%. -20%. If the amount of salt in the fishmeal is neglected when formulating the feed, poisoning of livestock and poultry may occur, especially in chicks, which can easily cause death.

6. Easy to adulterate. The price of fishmeal is high and the profits are high. Unscrupulous traders often make adulteration in fishmeal or use it to make profits. The most common is the incorporation of cake feeds and additives with a strong fishy taste. Farmers must pay attention to identify the quality of fishmeal and prevent losses due to adulteration, shoddy, etc.

7. Easy to savor. The use of fishmeal as feed can easily cause unpleasant odors in livestock and poultry products. The foul fishy odor, rancid or hail odor of poor quality fish meal not only affects the palatability and nutritional value of the feed, but also affects the quality of the product.
