A transgenic vegetable has anti-cancer effect

If balanced nutrition is the key to a healthy diet, people certainly want food to contain more beneficial nutrients. Recently, Singapore researchers successfully transplanted a red grape gene that produces resveratrol into red leaf lettuce. Resveratrol, a triterpenoid, has a high content in red wine. Studies have shown that it can effectively reduce harmful cholesterol levels, increase the content of beneficial cholesterol, and can play a role in preventing cancer. Next year, this improved red leaf lettuce will be listed in Singapore.
