Effective management of piglet nursery care

Inspect regularly and observe carefully (at least twice a day) so that management problems or diseases can be detected early, and corrections and treatments can be made early to avoid serious consequences and affect future growth performance. This article describes some of the steps that a pig farm can use these steps (PIH-11) to achieve optimal health for weaned pigs and to ensure rapid and efficient growth.

Before turning pigs

The management of nursery homes began before the piglets entered. The pig house and all equipment must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. The ventilation system should be inspected and adjusted to a suitable amount of ventilation to ensure that the nursery is warm and dry before entering the pig. Check the trough and auxiliary heat source (if needed) and place them in place. Check drinking water and adjust to a suitable water level. Every 10 to 15 nursery pigs should have a drinking water level. If a nipple drinker is used, the flow rate should be adjusted to more than 2 cups of water per minute.

The feed should be added to the feeder just before the pig is introduced and the feeder adjusted so that the feed covers the area of the tray by 50% to 75%. When the piglet is used to the position of the tray and the eating behavior has been fixed, the feed stock should be reduced as soon as possible so that the feed covers 25% of the area of the tray.

When entering a pig

Weaned piglets at 14 and 21 days of age weighed between 3.6 and 5.9 kg. When entering pigs, piglets should be sorted according to body weight and body condition. Dividing piglets into different groups by weight allows more precise control of feed supply. This grouping is important because the price of starting food is expensive and the digestive power of piglets varies.

36 hours before entering the pig

During the first 36 hours after weaning, piglets need to find the chute and drinker. During this period, the water level should be carefully checked to ensure that the piglets drink easily. The water level should be adjusted to approximately the height of the smallest individual shoulder in the same group of piglets. Make sure there is feed in the feed tank at all times. If mats are placed in the fields, some fodder can be sprinkled on the mats to encourage piglets to feed. Do not limit the intake of piglets. It can be added several times a day, but make sure there is fresh feed in the chute at any time. Into the first 24 hours of the pig, the nipple drinker can be stuck, let it flow, so that piglets can help find the location of the drinking fountain as soon as possible. Careful observation should be made to ensure that all piglets have found drinking fountains and establish eating habits.

36 to 60 hours after entering the pig

Most piglets can find drinking fountains within 36 hours and start looking for feed intake. However, there are always some piglets that need additional attention. They must be found out. In this regard, this stage is very crucial. Generally, 2% to 4% of piglets need individual help. Finding such piglets is the most difficult step.

In order to identify such dangerous piglets, visit the nursing home to observe the following conditions:

Body condition - fat, normal or thin

Fur - bright or dark

There is no defecation or urination

Abdominal form is an important indicator. Well-fed piglets should have a tummy, while those who do not eat should have their belly deflated. For dehydration, further palpation of the oral mucosa and nasal tip can be performed. Or you can grab the skin behind the pig's forefoot. If the skin recovers after a few seconds, it is dehydrated.

After discovering a dangerous piglet, grab a handful of feed, and some water, and gently place the soggy feed into the mouth of the piglet. If a lot of piglets need separate care, prepare a bucket of feed, use water and wet, and feed them one by one into the mouth of the piglet. A 12 ml syringe with a head cut can be used to feed the piglet with an atherosclerotic wet material. Wet feeds or adipose-like feeds stick to the pig's tongue and cause swallowing reflexes. After feeding, carefully place the piglets next to the feed chute, and let them establish a connection between the feed in the mouth and the feed in the chute.

Piglets that are small individuals with low body fat reserves must be able to take energy at any time. Thin piglets need only 20 to 30 grams of feed to avoid hunger. For piglets that are in good health, symptoms such as loss of appetite, depression, and dullness are often caused by lack of energy, not infectious diseases.

Other considerations

During the entire conservation period, regular inspections and observations should be maintained so that management problems or diseases can be detected early and corrections and treatment can be made early. Feed intake and drinking water should be monitored as any one of the two indicators declines, indicating a problem. It should be ready at all times to respond to the disease in a timely manner. Staff should be trained so that they are able to identify the symptoms of the major diseases and treat them appropriately. The autopsy should be performed on dead pigs to determine the exact cause of the disease so that appropriate treatment options can be made.

The yellow mealworm is not only rich in protein, fat, polysaccharid and other organic macromolecular nutrients, but also rich in phosphorus, potassium, iron, sodium, aluminum and other trace elements. For every 100g of the yellow mealworm larvae, the protein content of dry powder is between 48% and 54%, the fat content is between 28% and 41%, and the contents of vitamin E, B1 and B2 are also high. Therefore, the yellow mealworm can provide high quality protein for birds and animals.
