On January 8, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council held the 2017 National Science and Technology Awards Conference in the Great Hall of the People on January 8. Wang Zeshan, a 82-year-old professor at Nanjing University of Science and Technology, and Hou Yunde, a 89-year-old national key technical expert in the prevention and treatment of major infectious diseases such as AIDS and viral hepatitis, jointly won the 2017 National Science and Technology Award.
Since the National Science and Technology Award was officially established in 2000, 29 scientists have won awards. Each winner will receive a bonus of RMB 5 million.
Born in 1935, Wang Zeshan was a native of Jilin City, Jilin Province. In 1960, he graduated from the Military Engineering Institute of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. He is a famous Chinese fire pharmacist, the founder of the theoretical system of launching charges, the pioneer of the fusion of fire and explosives to control the integration of military and civilians, and the inventor of a series of original technologies.
Wang Zeshan won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 1993, and won the first prize of the National Technology Invention Award twice in 1996 and 2017. Self-proclaimed as "post-80s", he is flexible and energetic, and still fights in the front line of national defense research.
Born in 1929, Hou Yunde is a native of Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province. He graduated from the Tongji University School of Medicine in 1955 with a seven-year system. In 1962, he was awarded a doctorate in medicine by the former Soviet Academy of Medical Sciences. After returning to the motherland, he served as the director of the Institute of Virology of the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine and the director of the Department of Medicine and Health of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Hou Yunde is the main founder of China's molecular virology, modern medicine biotechnology industry and modern infectious disease prevention and control technology system. He has been engaged in scientific research for more than 60 years and has pioneered the development of China's first genetic engineering drug, recombinant human interferon alpha 1b, for clinical treatment of tens of millions of patients. He led the team to successfully cope with the many occurrences in the past decade and abroad. The epidemic of major infectious diseases, including the prevention and control response and scientific and technological breakthroughs of the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic in China. (ä¸æ–°ç½‘)
