According to New Zealand media reports, AgResearch, a research centre in New Zealand, plans to develop a genetically modified dairy cow that can produce drug milk. This milk can be used to resist the general body's disease and maintain the body's immune system. The center collaborated with Pharming Group, a Dutch animal genetic improvement expert, to obtain milk containing human lactoferrin. The price of lactoferrin currently on the market is very expensive. If the trial is successful, it will be a major advance in the history of medicine. Lactoferrin is a protein that stimulates the body's immune system and is the body’s first line of defense against infection. According to research from China and Western countries, once successfully developed, milk containing lactoferrin can become a food for hospitals, baby food, and supplements for athletes.
