Nano-new material "Palladium Blue" came out

Recently, Prof. Zheng Nanfeng, a research group of the “Fluid Chemistry” research group of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, published the research title “Freestandingpalladiumnanosheetswithplasmonicandcatalyticproperties” in “NatureNanotechnology”.

“NatureNanotechnology” is a magazine published by “Nature”, which reports new achievements in nanoscience and technology-related research. It was released in 2006 with an impact factor of 26.309 in 2009.

Palladium is an important catalytic material, and the 2010 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to the three inventors of the “Palladium Catalytic Cross-Coupling Reaction”. Palladium nanomaterials are mostly black, and "palladium black" which is widely used in catalytic reactions is an example. The research published by Professor Zheng Nanfeng's research group found that nano-palladium can display brilliant blue and have unique optical and catalytic properties through fine-tuning of morphology.

The "palladium blue" prepared by the research group consists of hexagonal ultra-thin palladium nanosheets of uniform size. The thickness of the flakes is only 1.8 nm, and the side length can be controlled between 20-200 nm. The ultra-thin structural features not only make Palladium Blue have a high specific surface area, but also exhibit superior catalytic performance in commercial electrocatalytic oxidation of formic acid than commercial palladium black. Combined with theoretical calculations, it is also found that the ultra-thin structure is "palladium blue". It has the main reason for strong near-infrared light absorption and blue color. The ultra-thin thickness of “Palladium Blue” makes it impossible to scatter near-infrared light, and the absorbed light is completely converted into heat, which causes the surrounding environment to heat up rapidly, and can be directly applied to the near-infrared photothermal therapy of tumors. As a near-infrared photosensitizer, the "palladium blue" zui is characterized by its ultra-high photothermal stability, which is unmatched by other existing precious metal nano-near-sensitive photosensitizers. At present, the research group is conducting more in-depth systematic research on the catalytic and biological applications of “palladium blue”.

Professor Zheng Nanfeng is a high-level talent introduced from overseas in 2007 by the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. In 2009, he was awarded the National Outstanding Youth Fund and was appointed as a Distinguished Professor of the “Changjiang Scholars Award Program” of the Ministry of Education. The research was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, Xiamen University, and the State Key Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of Solid Surfaces, and was supported by the “Excellent Doctoral Dissertation” program of Xiamen University.
