Morphological features: Snapping Turtles are peculiar in appearance and resemble crocodiles in their coarseness. The head sticks out of the body and cannot be retracted into the shell. The upper and lower jaws are slightly pointed, the back carapace is thin, brown or tan, with a dorsal ridge at the midline and a dentate edge; the abdomen is white. There is a fleshy tail length and a scale-like rib on the dorsal side of the anterior half of the tail, which is jagged.
